The Women's Institute (WI) stands for connecting and empowering women through learning, skill-sharing and community action. Its core mission is to give women a voice, be a force for good in the community, and provide opportunities for lifelong learning and self-development. The WI's three main purposes are to advance the education of women and girls, promote sustainable development, and advance public health.
-
Empowerment and advocacy:The WI empowers women to use their voice to influence change on issues that matter to them through both local and national campaigns.
-
Historical roots:Founded in 1915 to revitalize rural communities and boost food production during WWI, its aims have since broadened significantly, as detailed on the National Federation of Women's Institutes website.
-
Community and connection:The WI provides a space for women of all ages and backgrounds to connect, share experiences, tackle social isolation, and build community cohesion.
-
Education and skill-building:It offers lifelong learning opportunities and supports women in developing new skills, boosting their confidence and well-being.
